Partners Scott Stornetta and Stuart Haber discuss their ‘time-stamp’ for electronic documents, which they developed in the Bellcore Research Laboratory in Morristown. Their goal was to create an immutable record for electronic documents, what the world today describes as the blockchain.

The creator of Bitcoin then used their series of papers as the foundation for the first cryptocurrency (Drs. Haber and Stornetta are the most cited authors in the bitcoin white paper). Their set of data integrity mechanisms now protects over $3 trillion in digital assets across hundreds of blockchain implementations.

Concerned about the rise of AI deepfakes and threats to personal identity, they’ve now turned their focus to empowering individuals with unforgeable, verifiable digital identities.
